Body-Based Breathwork
What is Body-Based Breathwork?
Body Based Breathwork is a weaving of ancient wisdom and modern science to activate the breath in a conscious and rhythmic way to connect more deeply to the heart in a safe environment. The intention is to bring us into the deep intelligence of our body, where we can safely access stored trauma and the stories we have around those experiences. It is also meant to connect us to the unborn parts of ourselves that are wanting to be revealed. Some explain this work as a way to heal, while others may explain this work as a way to awaken and connect to Divine knowing. The point is that through this altered state of consciousness, you are divinely guided by your breath and body to enter a realm of understanding.
· Physical Sensation: As you breathe, you may experience tingling sensations, warmth, coolness, or a surge of energy within your body. These sensations are a sign of the body releasing tension and energy blockages and are a normal part of the process.
· Movement: You might feel an urge to move during the practice. Movement is encouraged! It is a natural response as your body releases stored emotions, traumas, or tension. Any movement that helps you feel more comfortable and supported within your mat space is encouraged. Trust that your body knows how to heal itself and honor what it requests.
· Emotions: As the breathwork opens your energy field, emotions may arise. These could be memories, old grief, or feelings that have been stored in the body for quite some time. It’s essential to allow these emotions to surface and flow freely. Crying, laughing, yelling, humming, or vocalizing in any other expression is encouraged, as it helps release what has been held back. The breathwork practice facilitates a space where these emotions can be expressed in a safe and healing way. Stay present and allow the emotions to move through you without getting caught in old stories or judgements.
· Heightened Physical Sensations: In some cases, the physical sensations may become more intense. If this happens, please don’t hesitate to ask for support from the facilitator or for bodywork assistance. Don’t be shy to communicate what you need. Combining your breath with the support of touch can help release tension more effectively and provide deeper relaxation.
· Increased Awareness and Presence: A common experience in conscious connected breathwork is an increased sense of awareness. This can manifest as a heightened ability to be fully present in the moment, often accompanied by a deep connection to the body and surroundings. Individuals may feel as if they are acutely attuned to their senses, noticing subtleties in their environment or within themselves that usually go unnoticed.
· Visionary or Transcendent Experiences: Many report vivid, dreamlike visions or insights during breathwork, which can resemble shamanic journeying. These visions may include encounters with symbols, archetypes, ancestral figures, colors and light, or even deceased loved ones. For some, it can feel like they are traversing different realms or dimensions, experiencing heightened spiritual or intuitive insights.
